For Spring/Summer '14, Shaun Samson celebrates the ultimate Summer party.
School is out, and everyone is dressed in their freshest outfits to hang at the beach with their mates. Summer necessities are presented in a soft colour palette of pastels and light greys, anchored by black and flashes of silver. The collection comprises of separates including felted trousers in silver metallic and wool, button-down shirts and bottoms made in silk georgette and organza, which remind Samson of the tissuepaper used as streamers for parties and on pinatas (Samson's birthday is in the Summer). Accessories accent the collection and include bucket hats, lanyards, and festival-style bracelets. Also included are sweatshirts and pullovers that every guy needs when the sun is setting and the temperature cools down.
Which brings the collection to Summer nights where Samson delves into night time themes. Silk satin is fused onto neoprene and made into elegant oversized wetsuit silhouettes, and a street racing element is introduced. 'After house parties in high school, it would be around 1AM and everyone would go to "the Races"', quotes Samson, a strip of highway in an unpopulated area where teens from various parts of the city would meet to drag race their highly coveted cars; who's aftermarket customisation could rival any race rocket featured in Fast and the Furious. Numeric graphics are both sporty and nostalgic references, and 'pager code' is resurrected through various hidden messages placed throughout the collection - on waistbands, t-shirts and oversized beach towels.
Knit pullovers in the collection are a collaboration with Regain, a French knitwear company celebrated for supplying garments to workwear industries including Firefighting and the French Military. The pieces in the collaboration feature 'Samson' branding in keeping with the racing element of the collection and are made in lightweight cotton. A feature pullover is knitted in transparent iridescent yarns, which show off the masterful technical abilities of Regain as a knit manufacturer.
Vans, a shoe brand (like Samson) born and bred in Southern California, has supplied footwear for the collection, which Samson has customised with a platform and added gum outer sole.

TOTEM is proud to introduce the new menswear label REGAIN. Regain is a company anchored in the tradition and savoir-faire of textiles. These ideals are not unfamiliar to our 40 years of practice in the manufacture of textiles. Our region and our city of Castres have been the symbol of the French textile industry for numerous decades. We like to think that we perpetuate this tradition and it is with this desire that, today, the pullovers made in our workshop proudly claim “made in France”. For us 2013 is the synonym of a turning point, a change in direction. We are in the process of thinking about and creating a totally new, top of the market range collection aimed at men. Yes, we have always dressed and protected the men and women who risk their lives and work for the protection of France: firemen, the military and the navy. And today we want all men to be able to wear our pullovers, our knitwear, our creations.
